Spring Zing 2011 Event Sets Fundraising Record

Posted by admin on June 6th, 2011 at 3:12 am

More than 300 attendees of the 2011 Spring Zing witnessed not only a lively evening of auctions, awards food and fun, they were part of the most successful fundraiser in Zoom Group’s history.

According to Zoom Group president Annie Rosenberg-Sattich, the May 18 event collected a record $58,000, almost $14,000 more than the 2010 total.

“That result says a lot about the altruism of a lot of people, especially in this economy,” said Rosenberg-Sattich. “We’re grateful and humbled by that kind of an outpouring, and really looking forward to using those funds to further our mission of helping adults with developmental disabilities to experience a sense of belonging in our community.”

Rosenberg-Sattich credited the record total to a substantial increase in sponsorships and auction donations gathered by Zoom Group’s board of directors. Board chairman Shawn Herbig expressed pride in the exceptional effort displayed this year by his team.

“In order to take an already great event and make it even better, this group of 19 individuals increased their commitment to Spring Zing,” Herbig said. The board’s size was increased by eight members last year. “While the board has always been involved in Spring Zing, this year everyone sponsored a table, solicited auction items or made substantial contributions in some other way to push the event to record-setting levels.”

The Zing saw its favored emcee, WAVE 3 news anchor Dawne Gee, in her familiar high-energy role, keeping the evening lively and entertaining. And honorary chairman and head coach of the University Louisville’s men’s soccer team, Kenneth Lolla, gave an encouraging speech that included stories of his personal experiences with a family member with disabilities.

But the highlight of the evening, said Rosenberg-Sattich, was the presentation of the annual Zoom Group Awesome Client Award to Daniel Smith, who works at a Disabled Veterans (DAV) outlet.

“We’ve had reports from his managers that he is one of their best employees,” she said “He gave a speech and talked about how much he loved his job and how much he loved his tasks.”

Smith’s success is proof positive of Zoom Group’s effect on its clients, Herbig said.

“When Daniel received his award, he spoke about how Zoom Group has changed his life,” Herbig said. “By providing meaningful life skills training to Daniel through our supported employment program, we are able to make substantial changes to his world and the life he experiences.”

Rosenberg-Sattich stressed that achievements in the lives of clients like Smith could not be possible without the generous donations to Spring Zing and year round participation with partners throughout the community. She expressed particular gratitude toward Brown-Forman, the event’s Gold Sponsor, Barry Wooley Designs, UPS Supply Chain Solutions and York Management Inc., Silver Sponsors, and the numerous table sponsors and participating restaurants.

“There’s just a huge number of people who sponsor us in so many ways for this event: donors who buy tables, companies and people who donate silent auction items and those who simply contribute funds,” she said. “From this point we take those funds and use them to the best of our ability to help our clients. It’s highly gratifying to see such generosity put to such good use throughout the year.”
