India government still refusing recognition of autism as a disability

The Times of India: The Academy for Severe Handicaps and Autism is one of several organizations in India working to convince government officials that people living with the condition need financial help.

“We don’t expect any special benefits but those suffering from autism are not even given benefits which other disabled are getting,” said Jayshree Ramesh, president of ASHA. “Schools for autistic children run on their own. We want the government to fund such institutions. People suffering from autism should get job reservations and access to vocational training.”
