History of century-old center marks progress in treatment of developmentally disabled

When the Wyoming Life Resource Center opened 100 years ago, its name was The School for the Defective. Some clients were registered as “feeble minded,” a generic label used for years. Care was minimal, not engaging.

A century later, that’s all changed. During the day, most clients go to Community Entry Services programs in Lander or Riverton, where they work. On campus they have access to a therapeutic pool, therapeutic riding and staff specially trained to help them gain independence.
