Carlsbad Current-Argus: Carlsbad already knows that it has a hero in its midst, but the rest of the country is just finding out about Carolyn Olson, a champion of the developmentally disabled and the local and regional Special Olympics coordinator.
The American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living has named Olson as its 2012 recipient of the Developmental Disabilities Hero of the Year award. Olson will accept the award Oct. 10 in Tampa, Fla.
Like most heroes, Olson, who also serves part-time with the Special Olympic program at the state level, downplays her volunteer work with Special Olympics and people with developmental disabilities.
