About Zoom Group

Zoom Group (formerly Louisville Diversified Services) was founded in 1986, during a time when the options available to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in Louisville and indeed, throughout the country, were few. Initiated by a group parents and advocates with the Council on Development Disabilities, a new service model was designed to serve people with all levels of developmental disabilities. The most severely and profoundly disabled adults would be in day programs small enough to encourage community interaction. Those who were capable of working in typical jobs in community businesses would be supported as their needs required. Others would work together in small groups within businesses, supervised by staff.

Over the years, the original model has been adapted to accommodate the needs of businesses, funding sources, clients and their families. What has not changed is the organization’s resolve to offer a meaningful vocational service that benefits our clients and the businesses that employ them, while at the same time facilitating a strong social network for each of the adults we serve.

Today, Zoom Group is a thriving organization that serves over 250 people in ZoomWorks (supported employment, commercial operations), StudioWorks, LifeWorks (adult day programs) and ZoomU (providing self-advocacy and empowerment acumen).

More significant than Zoom’s success, however, is the success of these 250 people, who might have been languishing at home or in institutions but are instead out in the community, making friends, gaining respect and living meaningful lives.
