For two weeks during the heat of August, StudioWorks takes part in the tradition of entering the Kentucky State Fair. This year we entered twenty artists into two group categories, Fine Arts and Hobbies. The results were incredible as our artists garnered twenty blue ribbons! That’s the reason Alicia and Natalie are all smiles in the above image. Here are a few more of our proud artists.
Eric H. earned his ribbon with his wonderful glazed ceramic rhino sculpture he made.
For Julie, this is her third blue ribbon in three years. Last year she won the pastel category and this year her ceramic airplane was a hit.
For Dorothy H. this year’s fair was her opportunity to win her first ribbon. Her acrylic painting of the young Elvis Presley caught the judges’ eyes.
Matthew T.’s abstract color pencil and marker rendering was among the group that won the blue ribbon in the fine arts category. Here’s an image of blue ribbons next to the beaded jewelry entered into the Hobbies category.
Our staff was so proud of the StudioWorks artists and we know that their families and care givers felt similarly. It has been nearly a year since we moved into our new studio/gallery to wonderful results. We hope to keep the ball rolling as we add new artists to our existing roster. Before closing, the StudioWorks staff gathered art to sell at the Affordable Art Show that was held September 17 at the 930 Gallery in Louisville. This is what our space looked like inside the gallery. Overall, several dozen artists from our community gathered together for this event.
We used the sign from outside our Eastern Parkway location to announce who we are. About two thousand people attended the free event that included family fun and lots of good food. StudioWorks anticipates participating in more of our city’s various art and craft festivals as a great way of being involved with the community. We will be showing next at the Belknap Festival in the Douglas Loop on October 8 which will be an outdoor event. We are sure to have lots of wonderful and affordable art at this event too. If you are in the area at that time, please stop by and say hello. To close, here is StudioWorks artist Chimel F. and staff member Rebecca Crutcher hamming it up for the camera at the Affordable Art Show.
